This Is Not Our Final Home Philippians 3:1-21 How to Arrive Home Safely? 1. Drink joy from the well of the Lord verses the well of the world. “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever” (1 Jn. 2:15-17). “You move us to delight in praising you; for you have formed us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in you.” Augustine “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.” Pascal “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” C.S. Lewis 2. Distance yourself from the false ideologies of our day. “The most dangerous ideas in a society are not the ones being argued but rather the ones that are assumed.” C.S. Lewis 3. Endure suffering well. 4. Don’t dwell on the past. 5. Live with the end in mind. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Cor. 2:9, NLT). “For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come” (Heb. 13:14). 6. Learn from godly examples. 7. Refuse to get immorally enmeshed with the world.
